HM the King launches in Abidjan building works of fishing village

28 February 2014 Printable Version
Abidjan - HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Ivorian prime minister Daniel Kablan Duncan, launched, on Friday in the Locodjro town (Attécoubé commune, northern Abidjan), the building works of a fishing village worth 18 million dirhams.

The project will spur the sector of small-scale fishing through improving the product's quality, and promoting the living conditions of fishermen, wholesale fish merchants, and fish dryers and smokers. It will also create new jobs, increase beneficiaries' income and ameliorate hygienic conditions in order to achieve sustainable and integrated human development.

This structuring project, a socio-economic development hub, will consist of building a fish covered market, an ice factory, a cold room, an area for smoking fish and another for storing and maintenance, a multi-purpose room, a dispensary, a daycare, and a loading area.

This project is in line with the speech by HM the King in the opening of the Ivorian-Moroccan economic forum (Feb. 24-25, Abidjan) and in which the sovereign said "there are also projects which, although smaller in scale, are particularly important because they have a direct bearing on the citizens and aim to improve their daily lives. This is the case of the fishing village we are launching here in Côte d'Ivoire."

The future fishing village was the object of an agreement signed, last Tuesday in Abidjan under the chairmanship of HM King Mohammed VI, by Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, Ivorian Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Nialé Kaba, minister in charge of economy and finance, Abdurahman Cissé, Minister in charge of the Budget, Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture and Sea Fisheries, Mohamed Boussaid, minister of economy and finance, Mustapha Terrab, from the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development and Mohamed El Kettani, CEO of Attijariwafa Bank.

Symbol of a successful south-south cooperation, this project mirrors the unwavering will of Morocco to support Côte d'Ivoire's economic and social development as part of a win-win partnership.
