  • Economy : Digitalization as an Undeniable Job-Creation Driver

Speaking at the second conference of the second edition of "MD Talks", Mezzour noted that the digital acceleration period between 1991 and 2021 has seen the creation of about 1.2 billion new jobs worldwide.

"The real productive value is now digital," he stated, adding that the human capital in Morocco is rising in range and skills, which implies new professional aspirations and expectations expressed by workers.

Digitalization allows the creation of value, Mezzour went on to say, noting that his department intends to create 400,000 jobs in the field of outsourcing, 25% of which are closely related to digital.

Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar, highlighted the efforts of digitalization in the social sector. Digitalization can modernize the administration-citizen relationship and make institutions stronger, she said during this event held under the theme "Digitalization, a Strategic Lever for the New Development Model."

"At the level of the ministry, we rely on this approach. We are conducting a strategy of digitalization of the social pole targeting 500,000 beneficiaries," Hayar explained.

"Thanks to digitalization, we will be able to reach many more people and better meet their needs," she explained, adding that digitalization is also a tool for extraordinary transparency as it allows the monitoring of all stages of the process.

Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this edition of "MD Talks" features two other conferences on "Advanced Regionalization for Regional Integration" and "Renewable Energy, a Cross-Cutting Project at the heart of the NMD."

  • Culture : Morocco Attaches Particular Importance to Spanish Language

Nezha Alaoui M'Hammdi, who spoke at a ceremony held on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the Spanish language at the headquarters of the United Nations Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, noted that the Spanish language is a tool of choice to study, evaluate and understand the cultural heritage, as well as the various relations of interculturality spread over the Latin American continent.

The Moroccan diplomat also highlighted the cultural diversity of Morocco, which enjoys a strategic position at the crossroads of Africa, Europe and the Arab world, recalling that the Constitution of the Kingdom states that the convergence of Arab-Islamic, Amazigh and Saharan-Hassani components has been nourished and enriched by its African, Andalusian, Hebrew and Mediterranean tributaries.

The Arabic language, in turn, has influenced many languages, including Spanish, English, French and even Amharic and other languages, said the Moroccan ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti.

The celebration of this day was punctuated by several communications from the Representative of the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Commission for Africa and ambassadors of Spanish-speaking countries accredited in Addis Ababa.

Initiated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in collaboration with the diplomatic missions of Spanish-speaking countries in Addis Ababa, the celebration of the Day of the Spanish language was marked, among other things, by presentations on the Spanish language, a screening of documentaries and cultural performances in addition to stands dedicated to the culinary arts.

While recalling that this 59th anniversary of this emblematic day for African unity is an opportunity to salute the memory of the founding fathers of this free and unified Africa, Zemmouri noted that in view of the upheavals and profound changes that affect the world today, "celebrate Africa has more than a meaning.

  • Social : Digitization Allows New Form of Inclusion, Minister Says

Speaking at the first conference of the second edition of "MD Talks", Benmoussa said that this digitization can recreate the conditions for a relationship of trust between society and the state.

It is also considered to be transforming the relationship of the State with citizens, businesses and all stakeholders, through its contribution to the facilitation of access to information and public services and the possibility of citizen participation, he argued.

The digital is among the five bets of the NMD, said the Minister, highlighting the existence of a number of components on human, competence and research, corresponding to the implementation of the bet of digitization.

In this regard, the Ministry of National Education has just launched a national consultation on a draft roadmap in full consistency with the principles of the NMD and the framework defined by the Framework Law 51.17 on the system of education, training and scientific research, added Benmoussa.

"The objective is to translate on the operational level a number of sub-referentials and major principles, putting the child and the student at the heart of the system," he said, adding that this operationalization should be based on the tools that can be developed to improve teaching practices at the classroom level.

He recalled that the NMD aims to develop a vision and an ambition for Morocco by 2035, "which is a shared and multidimensional ambition that reflects who we are and our identity, an ambition where human capital is really at the center.

This project, implemented in Morocco and Tunisia since 2016, has enabled the participating institutions in Morocco, namely the IAV in Rabat and Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, to benefit from a number of technical trainings in Japan, using state-of-the-art equipment provided by the project.

Under this project, the Director of Education, Training and Research at the Ministry of Agriculture, Bilal Hajjouji, said that Moroccan researchers have produced 60 publications and 80 papers at international conferences, highlighting the success of scientific collaboration with Japan.

Moroccan Sahara: UN Chief Calls on All Parties to the Conflict to Resume Political Process

22 January 2022 Printable Version
New York (United Nations) - UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on all the parties to the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara to resume the political process in order to achieve a solution to this regional dispute.

It is "a problem that has lasted so many decades," Guterres said at a press conference held on Friday in New York. "It is time for the parties to understand the need for a dialogue, seeking a solution to the [Sahara] issue."

The UN Chief also said that "it is in the interest of all to resolve once and for all" this dispute in view of the challenges facing the region.

This problem is happening "in an area of the world where we see extremely serious security problems, where we see terrorism growing in the Sahel and getting increasingly closer to the coast," he added.

In light of these challenges, the dialogue must lead to a solution, rather than "maintaining an endless process with no hope of resolution," said Guterres.

Guterres' call comes at a time when his Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, completed a visit to the region, as part of the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2602, adopted on October 29, 2021.

In this resolution, the UN Executive Body reiterated its call to the parties, namely Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the polisario, to resume the process of round tables, in a spirit of realism and compromise, to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, sustainable and compromise-based political solution.
