The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi, and the Acting Minister of Health, Mohamed Trabelsi, stressed that the opening of this hospital, which is part of the medical aid emergency ordered by the Sovereign for the benefit of Tunisia, will help provide care for COVID-19 patients, mainly those in severe or critical condition.
Speaking to reporters, Jerandi welcomed "the great humanitarian initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI towards Tunisia, which reflects fraternal understanding, active solidarity and the depth of the links between the two brotherly countries and peoples".
Jerandi paid tribute to the "considerable efforts" made by the construction team (20 engineers and technicians) to hasten the operationalization of this structure, which includes high quality health care equipment.
For his part, Mr. Trabelsi, Minister of Social Affairs, said that the deployment of this hospital in addition to the other solidarity actions undertaken by Morocco "show the way towards Maghreb unity and draw a new page in the history of inter-Maghreb relations".
Alongside MM. Jerandi and Trabelsi, the official inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of several Tunisian civil and military personalities, in particular the Brigadier General, Director General of Military Health in Tunisia, Mustapha Ferjani, as well as the ambassador of Morocco to Tunisia, Hassan Tariq.
Located in La Manouba, 14 km from the capital Tunis, the field hospital will help reduce the pressure that hospitals in this region are currently experiencing, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.
