The Public Prosecutor underlines in a statement issued on Friday that he was once again surprised by the publication of a release by the Committee, recalling the statement he had issued on October 13, 2021, on Mr. Maati Monjib’s allegations of being arbitrarily banned from travel, which is contrary to the truth and reality.
He noted that the Public Prosecution, in order to enlighten the public opinion, confirms the content of its first statement on this matter, which was issued on the aforementioned date.
The Public Prosecutor explains that Mr. Maati Monjib was in pretrial detention pending investigation file No. 141-2020 on suspicion of committing a money laundering misdemeanour, and on March 23, 2021, the investigative judge of the Rabat Court of First Instance issued an order granting him provisional release, with the border closed against him and the withdrawal of his passport, while entrusting the National Police Judicial Division to implement this order.
He points out that on the same date (March 23, 2021) and in implementation of the order of the investigating judge, the judicial police officer in charge of notifying the judicial order moved to Al-Arjat Prison 2, where it made a report signed by the person concerned, which included the notification of the temporary release decision to him, adding that regarding the withdrawal of the two passports, the report, based on the response of the person concerned, stated that he had a Moroccan passport and a foreign passport, and that they were not included in his luggage at the prison institution.
According to the same source, on March 23, 2021, the judicial police officers moved with the concerned person after leaving prison to his house, where he informed them that the two passports were in the possession of his nephew, before going with them again to where the person concerned was, and there he handed them the passports.
On the other hand, the judicial police handed him a receipt after receiving the two passports.
The Public Prosecution expresses its regret at once again having to clarify these facts, which the person concerned knows are true, noting that it presents to public opinion, in addition to this statement, the aforementioned judicial order and the minutes of its notification to Mr. Maati Monjib signed by this latter, as well as the minutes of the execution of the passport withdrawal, adding that the publication of these documents, which do not affect the confidentiality of the investigation, aims to remove any confusion.
