"The royal initiative to provide help to African countries will bear fruit by increasing the Kingdom's influence in the region and by strengthening its diplomatic role as a growing force on the continent," Dr. Hazan-Lasri told MAP.
The Moroccan initiative, backed by the Royal African vision, is part of a strategy in the medium term which will also allow Morocco to diversify its market and to position itself as a regional leader and as an important intercontinental interlocutor for African countries with Europe.
Referring to the measures taken by Morocco, under the leadership of the Sovereign, to curb the spread of the deadly virus, the health expert said that health indicators demonstrate that these measures have had "very satisfying" results to limit the infection and the number of deaths due to the pandemic.
This successful experience is of great use for several countries whose level of development and socio-economic and demographic characteristics are similar to those of the Kingdom, he noted.
Thanks to the surge of solidarity triggered by the various contributions to the Special Fund for the management of the coronavirus, launched by the Sovereign, this initiative made it possible to raise 32 billion dirhams, a considerable sum which places the Morocco at the level of Australia, Germany and Hong Kong with 10% of the GDP.
The Moroccan expert believes that only an aggressive strategy to revive the economy in the short and medium terms will limit the economic impact of the pandemic.
HM King Mohammed VI has given his high instructions to send a medical aid to several African countries to support their efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
This solidarity action is part of the implementation of the Initiative launched by HM the King on April 13, 2020, as a pragmatic and action-oriented approach, intended to the brotherly African countries, enabling the sharing of experiences and good practices and aiming to establish an operational framework in order to support their efforts in the various phases of the management of the pandemic.
