"My country reiterates its position on the Moroccan Sahara issue, in the sense that my country supports the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007 and deemed by the Security Council as serious and credible," said the representative of the State of the United Arab Emirates before the Committee.
The Moroccan autonomy initiative "represents an important solution in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the resolutions of this organization, while preserving the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco," he pointed out.
He also commended "the tireless efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the Moroccan Sahara, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic".
The Emirati diplomat also welcomed the holding of two round tables on the Moroccan Sahara issue in 2018 and 2019, and called for continued support for the political process launched in 2007, under the exclusive aegis of the Secretary General of the UN and its Personal Representative.
