The Central African Republic also welcomes the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of resolution 2494 which underlines the need to work to achieve a "political, pragmatic, realistic and lasting" solution, said the representative of the CAR before the Committee.
This resolution, he added, calls on all the concerned parties to fully cooperate with the United Nations and make an important contribution to the political process and "recalls the Security Council's appeal to all parties to show realism and spirit of compromise to move forward in the negotiations."
Stressing "the need to achieve a solution to this Maghreb regional dispute over the Sahara", the Central African diplomat said his country welcomed the new impetus given to the political process led by the Secretary General of the United Nations through the holding of two round tables in Geneva that brought together Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario.
The CAR further recalls the Security Council's request to all parties "to fully cooperate with the United Nations, in particular the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara and with each other, involve more resolutely in order to end the current impasse and move forward towards a political solution,” he pointed out.
"My country encourages all the parties to continue negotiations by showing their will to move forward towards a compromise political solution", he concluded.
