Oualalou was among fifteen foreign authors, translators and publishers who were recognized Tuesday for introducing Chinese culture to the world at a reception held in Beijing in the presence of Morocco's ambassador to China, Aziz Mekouar.

The book "China and us: Responding to the second overtaking", published by the Arab Cultural Center in Casablanca, analyses the miracle accomplished by China, which succeeded in rising from a developing country to an emerging economy, then a global economic powerhouse.

According to the author, this rise can be explained by several factors, including the commitment to territorial integrity, culture and history, openness to the world and the priority of economics over ideology.

The winners list include Marianne Bastid-Bruguière (France), Arakawa Kiyohide (Japan), Kulteva Umut Baimuratovna (Kazakhstan), Bujar Hudhri (Albania), Andrzej Kacperski (Poland), Zimarin Oleg (Russia), Kalmar Eva (Hungary), Stburova Jelena (Latvia), Sundar Nath Bhattarai (Nepal), Balan Luminita (Romania), Murtaza Karshiboev (Uzbekistan), Chea Munyrith (Cambodia), Elham Sadat Mirzania (Iran) and Olivia Milburn (Great-Britain).

Morocco participates in the 2018 Beijing International Book Fair (August 21-26) as Country of Honour.

The Kingdom takes part in this event with some 500 titles.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Morocco will take this opportunity to showcase its graceful, distinctive culture, to introduce its talented writers and outstanding publications, and to deepen or establish communication and cooperation with publishers from all over the world.
