Lebanese Soprano Majida El Roumi to Perform at Mawazine Festival

Lebanese soprano Majida El Roumi will perform at Rabat's Mohammed V National Theatre on June 28th as part of the 17th edition of Mawazine Festival Rhythms of the World, the event's organizer Maroc Cultures Association announced on Monday.

Considered by music lovers to be the last diva worthy of the name, Majida El Roumi is known for her great success in oriental, romantic and patriotic songs, the source added in a press release.

Advocating for peace, the rebirth and union of the nation, Majida El Roumi sings words of great poets and collaborates with successful composers.

Participating in the biggest events in the world, decorated and rewarded throughout her career, Majida El Roumi is Honorary Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the fight against famine in the Arab world. In 2013, she was made Officer of Arts and Letters in France.

A graduate in Arabic literature, Majida El Roumi saw her artistic career take off thanks to the acclaimed "Kalimat", by the great poet Nizar Qabbani, which is to this day an anthem in the Arab world. She offered a multitude of beautiful melodies and exquisite poems magnified by her unique voice. Songs such as "Ib7at 3anni", "Maa Al Jarida", "Koun Sadi9i", "O7ebbok wa ba3d", "E3tazalt El Gharam" and "Saqata Al Qina" are today considered classics.

The 17th edition of the Mawazine Festival Rhythms of the World will be held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI from 22 to 30 June.

Established in 2001, the Mawazine Festival Rhythms of the World is the essential rendezvous for music amateurs in Morocco drawing for the past 15 years, over 2 million festivalgoers at each edition.

Held over a period of nine days, Mawazine offers a rich and diversified program where performers from all four corners of the world make of the cities of Rabat and Salé a world stage for music.
