Morocco: 3,833 Publications Edited in 2016-2017, up 16% (Study)

A total of 3,833 books and magazines were published in 2016-2017 in Morocco, an increase of 16% compared with the previous year (3,304 publications), according to the annual report of the King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud Foundation.

The majority of publications were written in Arabic (more than 80%), against 16% in French, less than 2% in Amazigh, 0.7% in English and 0.5% in Spanish, the source added.

Nearly 25% of publications (710 titles) are literary works (novels, poetry collections, short stories and plays), it said, noting that 86% of the works in 2016/2017 were published by male authors.

Moroccan female writers focus on literature (181 literary works), law (60 titles) and history (53 titles) and write mainly in Arabic, the source said.
