Russian PM Awarded 'Doctor Honoris Causa' by Rabat Mohammed V University

The Rabat Mohammed V University granted, on Wednesday, the title of "Doctor Honoris Causa" to Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Anatolievitch Medvedev, who is on a visit to Morocco, to pay homage to his exemplary action for promoting innovation and technology.

In line with its cultural and scientific vocation, the University chose to pay tribute to Medvedev in recognition of his "2009 Medvedev Modernization program", which is aimed at modernizing the Russian society and setting up an innovative economic model based on developing and using high tech.

Morocco is a long-standing and loyal partner, Medvedev said in an speech on this occasion, underlining that the Russian-Moroccan strategic ties go back to over two centuries.

He added that he is very honoured to get this honorary doctorate, saying that the latest visit by HM the King to Russia led to the signature of several economic agreements and will give new momentum to bilateral relations.

For his part, the University president Saaid Amzazi said that the ceremony reflects the centuries-old bonds between Morocco and Russia, noting that this honorary doctorate is in line with HM the King's and president Poutine's will to give new impetus to bilateral ties.
