Al Hoceima Events: Up to 20 Years in Prison for the Accused

The criminal chamber of Casablanca's appeal court handed down, Tuesday, sentences ranging from 20 years in jail to one-year prison term against the accused in the Al Hoceima events.

One defendant was given a suspended prison sentence of one year, 12 individuals were sentenced to two years in jail and seven others were handed down a three-year prison term.

Seven people involved in these events were sentenced to 5 years in prison, while six others were each given 10 years imprisonment.

The court also sentenced 3 defendants to 15 years in jail and 4 others to 20 years.

Each of the accused are standing trial for undermining the State's domestic security, sabotage, murder and looting attempts, and for accepting money and other material means to fund propaganda meant to prejudice Morocco's unity and sovereignty.

They are also sued for shaking citizens' loyalty towards the Moroccan State and national institutions, participating in the organization of an unauthorized protest and holding unauthorized public rallies.
