Royal Armed Forces General Staff Delegation Attends Final Phase of Morocco-US Naval Aeronautical Exercise Lightning Handshake

Upon the high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), a military delegation from the FAR General Staff attended on Thursday the final phase of the Moroccan-American naval aeronautical exercise "Lighthning HandShake" aboard USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier of the US Navy which is participating in the exercise "African Lion 2018" alongside the Mohammed VI multi-mission frigate of the Royal Marine.

During this participation, the FAR military delegation held talks with Admiral James Gordon Foggo, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and U.S. Naval Forces Africa and commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples, who was accompanied by the Commander and the executives of the aircraft carrier USS H. Truman, a statement of the FAR General Staff said.

On this occasion, Moroccan and American military officials commended the good results of military cooperation between the Armed Forces of the two countries, which includes combined exercises, participation in various training sessions, mutual support, training and exchange of information and of visits, the statement added.

They also discussed the means to strengthen this cooperation with a view to enhancing interoperability between the two armies through the sharing of experiences and expertise.

The Moroccan-American naval exercise "Lighthning HandShake", which took place in the Atlantic off the coast of Morocco, on the sidelines of the exercise African Lion 2018, was marked by tactical exercises between US destroyer "Forrest" and the Mohammed VI frigate, air defense exercises and air raids with the participation of US F18 and Moroccan F16 fighter jets, as well as anti-submarine warfare, interception and low altitude navigation exercises, the source pointed out.

During this exercise, combined air missions and live firing at sea against floating and ground targets were carried out in addition to sea combat exercises.

These exercises contributed to the development of interoperability in tactical, technical and procedural areas between the participating Moroccan and US forces, the statement added.
