Speaking at a press briefing following a broad working meeting, El Othmani underlined the economic and political importance of the visit of the Russian Prime Minister, in the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership signed between the two countries during the historic visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Russia in 2016.

This partnership has launched a new, solid and multidimensional cooperation, he said, adding that the 11 agreements signed on the occasion of Medvedev’s visit will give a new impetus to bilateral relations.

The Russian side has expressed its wish to increase its agricultural imports from Morocco, El Othmani said, noting that "Morocco, in accordance with high royal instructions, is committed to paving the way for strengthening military and security cooperation with Russia.”

He also pointed out that the two sides exchanged views on various international and regional issues. Morocco's commitment to the African continent was particularly emphasized, he said, adding that both sides discussed the means to build a partnership to strengthen their presence in Africa.

El Othmani also expressed Morocco's wish to strengthen its partnership with the Eurasian Economic Union, a market of more than 200 million consumers.

For his part, Russian Prime Minister said that broad prospects are opening up to the partnership between Morocco and the Eurasian Economic Union, in particular after Morocco signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will pave the way to the setting up of a first working group between the two parties.

He also pointed out that Morocco and Russia discussed at the broad working meeting the means to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, new technologies, agriculture, education, vocational training and military and security cooperation, stressing that the energy sector, in particular liquefied gas, is one of the important aspects of cooperation between the two countries.

Russia is ready to strengthen cooperation with Morocco in the field of nuclear energy and renewable energy, given the favorable natural conditions enjoyed by the Kingdom, the Russian Prime Minister said.

In the area of tourism, Medvedev noted the increase in the number of Russian tourists traveling to Morocco since the decision of Morocco in 2005 to exempt Russian nationals from visa requirements.

Chaired by El Othmani and Medvedev, the broad working meeting was marked by the signing of eleven cooperation agreements.

These agreements touch on bolstering customs, agricultural, military, diplomatic, administrative, commercial and cultural cooperation and also cover energy efficiency, renewable energy and nuclear energy peaceful use.
