Lower House Deputy Speaker Holds Talks in New York with IPU President

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (Morocco’s Lower House), Hayat Bouffarrachen, held talks on Tuesday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Gabriela Cuevas Barron.

The talks focused on the means to enhance cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and the IPU.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), was an opportunity to discuss the contribution of Morocco, in its capacity as Chair of the Arab Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in the efforts aimed at the modernization of this organization.

Cuevas Barron requested, on this occasion, the support of Morocco on several issues, including the amendment to the IPU statutes.

The talks were also an opportunity to discuss the conference slated on Dec. 10-11, 2018, in Morocco for the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration,

Cuevas Barron expressed, in this regard, her willingness to attend this conference as President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The meeting was attended by members of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation participating in the CSW 62nd Session, which will run through March 23 in New York.
