Morocco commends Romania's role on the regional and international scene, said on Wednesday Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, underlining that the Kingdom has always supported Romania's candidacy for the UN Security Council.

"We consider that the presence of Romania in the UN executive body will be a value added for the work of the UN Security Council," Bourita told a press conference after meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu, noting that Romania will bring a contribution that is very useful for the preservation of peace and stability, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.

Bourita also welcomed the evolution of bilateral relations, recalling that Morocco is Romania's top partner in Africa and the Arab world.

For his part, the Romanian Minister lauded the visit by Bourita to Romania, which will promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, noting that the two countries are bound by a strong partnership.

The talks between the two ministers touched on Romania's upcoming EU presidency, ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, the return of Morocco to the AU and other regional and international issues.

Afterwards, Bourita met with Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation at the political, economic and cultural levels.

Both sides noted the importance of the strategic dialogue between Morocco and Romania.

Bourita also held talks with officials from both house of the Romanian Parliament.

The Moroccan delegation accompanying the minister at this event includes mainly Director of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Redouane Adghoughi and chargé d'affaires at the Moroccan embassy in Bucharest Hind Zaimi.

Bourita's visit in Bucharest is the second leg of a tour to the Balkan region that would take him also to Sofia in Bulgaria.
