Morocco, International Criminal Court to Step up Cooperation

Public Prosecutor Mohamed Abdennabaoui held talks on Friday in Rabat with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda.

The meeting focused on the means to develop bilateral cooperation in judicial matters.

On this occasion, Abdennabaoui gave an overview on the process led by Moroccan authorities to protect rights and freedoms and to strengthen the judiciary since the adoption of the 2011 Constitution, a statement issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office said.

Explanations were also provided to the ICC Prosecutor on Morocco’s penal code, which includes several provisions relating to crimes that fall within the jurisdiction of the ICC.

According to the same source, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation through the organization of training sessions for members of the Public Prosecutor's Office on the international laws relating to these crimes and the ICC operating procedures.
