Morocco Will Not Be Part of Any Agreement That Does Not Respect Its Full Sovereignty Over Its Territory, Official

Speaking at a press briefing following the weekly cabinet meeting, El Khalfi said that Morocco has immutable values governing its adherence to international agreements, adding that the Kingdom will not accept any prejudice to this sovereignty or treatment dividing it in two or considering it as an administrative authority.

If its sovereignty is undermined, Morocco will not conclude or continue to be part of any agreement, including the current fisheries agreement, outside this framework, he said.

The official also explained that Morocco is firm in terms of international agreements and can not accept that the implementation of a Morocco-related agreement does exclude its southern provinces.

El Khalfi also noted that the verdict of the European Court of Justice must be put within its natural framework and observe the great difference between this decision and the one made by the public prosecutor who called for the cancellation of the agreement, recalling that a joint statement by Morocco and the European Union (EU) was issued right after the handing of the verdict, a fact that reinforces the Kingdom's position and foils any attempt to undermine its territorial integrity.

He deemed that Morocco is entitled to be proud of its victories in the different fights it has led, notably regarding the verdict by the European Court of Justice in December 2016 on the agricultural agreement between the Kingdom and the EU, the Guerguerate issue, the position of Sweden and the extension of Minurso's prerogatives.

The official also highlighted the projects carried out in the southern provinces, which resulted in concrete changes for the benefit of the populations, adding that Morocco's return to the African Union (AU) helped to thwart the manoeuvrers within the AU to undermine the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
