Geneva: Morocco Elected Vice-president of International Mutual Insurance Union

Geneva   -
Morocco was elected, Tuesday, first vice-president of the International Mutual Insurance Union (UMM) in the person of Abdelmoula Abdelmoumni, during the constituent assembly of this organization, held in Geneva.

This election took place during a ceremony held at the European headquarters of the United Nations to launch the UMM, at the joint initiative of the Organization of Mutual Insurance Entities in Americas (ODEMA) and the African Mutual Insurance Union (UAM), chaired by Abdelmoumni.

Chairman of the ODEMA, Argentinean Alfredo Sigliano, was appointed as head of the Geneva-based UMM.

The launch of this mutual insurance body was actively supported by numerous countries, such as Argentina, Peru, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Burundi, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Comoro Islands.

Abdelmoumni said that "this mutualist dynamic would not have been possible without the continuous commitment of Morocco within the UAM all along the process of establishment of the UMM."

Such commitment, he said, stems from the vision of HM King Mohammed VI who has made of South-South cooperation a strategic choice of Morocco's foreign policy.

He also praised the strong involvement of African countries in the initiation of this ambitious project, noting that the contribution of Morocco, as an active member of the UAM, does not obscure the efforts of several member countries which endeavored to create this important organization.

The chairman of the UAM recalled that social action was fundamental to the Sovereign’s project, whose primary goal is to achieve comprehensive, integrated, and sustainable development that meets the requirements of upgrading the national economy and improving citizens’ everyday life.
