A statement by the head of the government’s office said that it is also important to reduce social and territorial disparities, support purchasing power, fight poverty and precariousness and maintain social cohesion, in an atmosphere of solidarity between all segments of the Moroccan people, especially through ensuring the right to dignity equality and equal opportunities for all, within the framework of reconciliation between citizenship’s rights and obligations.

EL Othmani, who chaired the first meeting of the ministerial Committee responsible for monitoring the reform of governance of social protection system, set up as part of the implementation of commitments contained in the governmental program, highlighted the significant importance and attention given by HM King Mohammed VI to the reform and governance of this system, recalling the contents of the last Throne Day speech which mostly dealt with the social aspect.

From now on, it is necessary to deeply examine the national programs and policies that concern social support and protection, he said, adding that despite Morocco’s important efforts aimed at reforming social sectors and the volume of their resources, the funds committed to this end do not have any impact on the daily life of citizens as intended, given the matter of shortage, limited resources, lack of precise targeting of vulnerable groups, governance and control.

EL Othmani also stressed that during this meeting, attended by several members of the government, secretaries-general of the departments concerned, directors of public institutions and representatives of other sectors members of the Committee, the government intends to give priority to social policies in the draft Finance Bill 2019, especially education, health, employment and programs relating to the social protection and support of citizens’ purchasing power.
