The setting up of reception centers for immigrants is only an attempt to externalize the problem and is not a solution, said El Khalfi during a press briefing after the weekly cabinet meeting, stressing that "we need a long-term solution and not an immediate economic solution".

Morocco has chosen to defend a human and multidimensional approach to the immigration issue, he said, adding that the Kingdom has set an example by deciding to regularize the situation of more than 50,000 immigrants and by responding favorably to 3,000 applications to participate in the voluntary return program.

The spokesperson noted that Morocco has taken the initiative to address this issue at the African level, noting that this is an approach that HM King Mohammed VI has promoted since 2013 and which has turned into a national strategy.

Morocco can not accept a situation that is at odds with the human depth inherent in resolving the immigration issue, said El Khalfi, emphasizing the need for taking "collective responsibility" in this respect.

He further noted that illegal immigration networks have developed their modus operandi by using, for the first time, Go-Fast boats, stating that more than 80 networks of illegal immigration and human trafficking were dismantled.

El Khalfi also noted that the European leaders, like the Spanish Minister for Migration, welcomed Morocco's migration policy, highlighting the pressing need for a long-term solution that privileges the human dimension and which will be the fruit of a joint coordination.
