"Morocco is not well treated in terms of the aid granted by the European Union - for the fight against illegal immigration," the Spanish minister told the Joint Committee of Congress of Deputies-Senate for the EU on Wednesday.

Turkey receives, in this context, 6 billion Euros from the EU, while Morocco receives only about 50 million Euros, he pointed out.

"We have committed with the EU an additional 100 million Euros in assistance to Morocco, which is our preferential partner" in the area of migration management, Borrell underlined.

For him, the EU must prevent the situation from getting out of hand, given that migratory pressure is set to increase.

"Immigration is a challenge but also an opportunity. This is a European problem that we will not be able to solve if we do not count on Morocco's help," he noted.
