"Under the leadership of HM the King, Morocco has striven over the past two decades to implement substantial and bold social, political and economic reforms," said Lalla Joumala Alaoui, who was speaking during a debate, held at the University of Central Florida on the theme: "The business climate in Morocco and the socio-cultural environment".

Today, "Morocco is proud of the richness of its thousand-year-old history and its present commitment, as enshrined in our Constitution, to spiritual and ethnic diversity, which has become the Kingdom's greatest asset", she stressed, noting that this is "the same ideal that drives Morocco's openness to the world at the economic, societal and human levels".

"These shared values have been the cornerstone of the friendship that binds the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America for 240 years," she said, noting that "this historic alliance is stronger today than ever, as the two nations, which have often found themselves on the same side of history, share strategic interests and work together to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.”

On the economic and trade front, Lalla Joumala Alaoui recalled that the two countries are bound by a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the only one of its kind signed by the United States with an African country, adding that this agreement, which entered into force in 2006, has been the catalyst for job creation and increased trade opportunities for the private sectors in the United States and Morocco, as shown by the volume of trade that has tripled since the FTA was launched.

Regarding the academic aspect, Lalla Joumala Alaoui underlined that "the signing today of a memorandum of understanding between the University of Al Akhawayn and the University of Central Florida is an eloquent testimony to the intensification of opportunities for Moroccan and U.S. university researchers, as part of a fruitful exchange of their knowledge and expertise".

The ambassador of HM the King also expressed satisfaction with the enrolment of second generation young Moroccans at the University of Central Florida, who "will play an essential role in bilateral relations between the two nations by building bridges of understanding and open exchanges".
