Speaking at the opening of the 73rd UNGA, Espinoza said that the promotion of new global compacts on migration is among her priorities.

"We will focus on the promotion and implementation of the new global compacts on migration and refugees to better manage the flow of tens of millions of migrants and refugees now requiring assistance and protection," she said.

For his part, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said that in December, Heads of State and Government will meet in Marrakech to formally adopt a landmark Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

"Implementing this Compact can help us reap the widespread benefits of migration while protecting people against dangerous journeys, exploitation and discrimination.  I look forward to its formal adoption," he added.
