Migrants' Boat Sinks Off Nador: 11 Bodies Fished Out and Smuggler Nabbed, Nador province

Eleven bodies of candidates for illegal immigration were fished out following the sinking of a boat on Monday off Nador, and the smuggler, of Malian nationality, was arrested and remanded in police custody, a statement from the province of Nador said.

As part of the ongoing investigations led by the Royal Gendarmerie of Nador, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, concerning the boat found off the coast of Nador, on October 1, 2018, the rescue of 31 candidates for illegal immigration from sub-Saharan Africa on board, and the fishing out of 11 bodies, the smuggler who was among the rescued people was identified. He is of Malian nationality, aged 18 and is currently in custody, the statement said.

The investigation is under way to identify the main organizer of this operation who is also, according to the statements of the victims, of Malian nationality, the same source added.
