“Morocco is pursuing a three-pronged strategy that includes security operations to bust terror cells, economic development to uplift vulnerable sections of society and the preaching of moderate, accurate Islam to counter radical distortions in the religion,” the paper said.

De-radicalisation as a counter-terror strategy is perfectly legitimate, it added, noting that fighting poverty should definitely be part of the counter-terror arsenal.

The Moroccan approach of promoting moderate Islam to fight radicalism is better than the one adopted by China to deal with the situation in Xinjiang province, the paper underlined, adding that most of the media reports have described China’s camps for ethnic Uighurs in this province "as internment camps where up to an estimated 1 million Muslim minorities have been detained as part of China’s sweeping efforts to crack down on terrorism and extremism in Xinjiang."
