Talks focused on the means to step up cooperation between Morocco and the US agency in the health sector and to strengthen the Moroccan civil society capacities in the prevention and management of infectious diseases, as well as USAID's support for the public health reform project in Morocco.

On infectious diseases, Doukkali said that Morocco has several NGOs that are national champions in the health field but still need further capacity building to create a link between the actions of these NGOs and the thousands of local associations that operate in places where infectious diseases prevail, such as tuberculosis.

The goal is to focus on social factors that are malnutrition and unsanitary conditions, he pointed out.

Regarding public health reform, the minister noted that one of the projects consists in bringing together the various structures in charge of health security in Morocco into an integrated institution called the National Public Health Agency.

The minister said that Morocco seeks to develop its cooperation with the USAID to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal No. 3 and end the epidemics of tuberculosis by 2030.

The Kingdom is willing to join the USAID policy at the African level and make available its know-how in terms of capacity building in the health sector to the African countries, he pointed out.

For her part, Koek affirmed the USAID's willingness to work with Morocco for the mobilization of civil society in the fight against tuberculosis.

The US official welcomed the idea of initiating triangular cooperation programs between Morocco, the USAID and the Sub-Saharan countries to support the cooperation programs of the American NGO and spread the good practices and successful experiences of the Kingdom in the area of public health.
