Speaking at the opening of the 29th Arab Summit held in Dhahran, eastern Saudi Arabia, President Abbas expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Sovereign, Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, for his efforts and for those made by Bayt Mal Al Qods Agency in the Holy City.

President Abbas said that the current US administration has violated international resolutions by announcing  Jerusalem as capital of Israel, making itself a party to the conflict and not a mediator that seeks to resolve it, which he stressed has damaged the credibility of an American sponsored peace plan.

East Al Quds was and will remain the capital of the Palestinian State, he pointed out.

President Abbas called on the Arab summit to adopt and support the peace plan he proposed at the United Nations Security Council last February.

He noted that the proposed peace plan which is based on the Arab Peace Initiative calls for holding an international peace conference in the mid 2018 that is based on international resolutions.

Abbas said the outcomes of the conference must include the acceptance of the State of Palestine as a full member state at the UN and seeking the security council to achieve that, mutual recognition of statehood between Palestine and Israel on the borders of 1967 and the formation of a multilateral international mechanism that aids the two sides in negotiations to solve all permanent status issues according to the Oslo Accords.

HM King Mohammed VI was represented in the Arab Summit by HRH Prince Moulay Rachid.
