  • Economy : Morocco, Israel Sign in Marrakech MoU on Aquaponics

The MoU, signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, and his Israeli counterpart, Avraham Moshe Dichter, also outlines plans for the development and implementation of an agricultural research center.

Dichter told the press that the MoU is aimed at enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the fields of agriculture, wheat cultivation, and water.

"This is a significant step forward for both countries," he said, expressing his conviction that within a few years, both nations will achieve outstanding results in terms of food security.

As part of the effort to strengthen relations between the two countries, Sadiki and Dichter held talks on the sidelines of the 2nd African Conference on Health Risk Reduction, which is scheduled to continue until September 29. These discussions focused particularly on prospects for bolstering cooperation in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

  • Regional : Moroccan Sahara: Spanish Magazine Highlights 'Broad International Support' for Autonomy Initiative

"Morocco has received broad international support for its autonomy proposal for the Sahara, within the framework of the Kingdom's territorial integrity," writes the magazine specializing in Maghreb affairs.

Noting that ''the Moroccan proposal has continued to enjoy strong support, notably from the United States, Israel, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Spain,” the publication highlights the position of the Spanish government, which considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative to be the ''most serious, realistic and credible'' basis for resolving the Sahara dispute.

Morocco, which has always expressed its support for UN efforts to find a political solution to this issue, continues to deploy "dynamic diplomacy", notes "Atalayar", pointing out that "the other parties are sticking to a position that lacks support.”

In addition, the Spanish magazine highlights the "difficult conditions" in the Tindouf camps in southwest Algeria, as well as the "misappropriation and mismanagement" of international humanitarian aid intended for those sequestered in the camps.

This situation has been denounced in several reports by various international organizations, notably the World Food Programme (WFP), concludes "Atalayar".

  • Sport : AFCON-2025 in Morocco, a 'Trial Run' for World Cup 2030 Organization - Belgian Daily

In an article titled "With the 2025 African Cup of Nations, Morocco Refines Its Football Dream", the newspaper noted that this attribution, which "signifies a return to prominence for Moroccan football," will allow Morocco to once again host the premier African football tournament, 37 years after its last hosting.

The unanimous decision by the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to designate Morocco as the host of the 2025 AFCON during their meeting in Cairo was, as the publication notes, "hardly in doubt" even before the official announcement.

"Le Soir" further pointed out that the Kingdom wasted no time in initiating renovation and expansion work on its stadiums, all of which have already received FIFA certification. Work has already commenced on the stadiums in Rabat and Tangiers, with Agadir, Fez, and Casablanca stadiums also slated for improvements in the coming weeks.

The article describes Morocco as a "football-loving nation" that has actively hosted African tournaments in recent years, highlighting Morocco's successful hosting of the last AFCON U23, which it also won, along with hosting the FIFA Club World Cup in February (a repeat of 2013 and 2014).

Morocco was also the organizer of the most recent Women's AFCON in the summer of 2022, leading to the decision by African football governing bodies to award Morocco the hosting rights for the next edition in 2024.

Regarding Morocco's joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup, the Belgian media characterizes the bid as "unprecedented and symbolic" since it could mark the first time the competition is played across two continents. It also highlights the full support of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the bid.

The newspaper commends the "memorable" performance of the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they became the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final. It recognizes Morocco's dedication to African football and its ambition to break through barriers.

Le Soir also underscored the success of Moroccan clubs at the continental level and the impressive performance of women's football, which has undergone significant transformation and made it to the Round of 16 in its debut appearance at the Women's World Cup this past summer.

  • Regional : Over 11.5 Tons of Cannabis Resin Seized Near Mohammedia, El Jadida

Security operations carried out in connection with this case led to the seizure of an initial shipment of drugs on board a commercial vehicle on the highway linking the towns of Bouznika and Mohammedia, weighing a total of 4 tons and 168 kg, before the driver of the vehicle and his companion were arrested at the entrance to the town of Ksar Sghir, the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) said in a press release.

Further investigations allowed for identifying extensions of this criminal network in "El Mharza" douar (small village) on the outskirts of "Bir Jdid." The same source emphasized that four additional suspects were arrested, and more drug shipments, totaling 7 tons and 400 kg, were seized, as well as two inflatable boats, three marine engines, 107 plastic containers filled with fuel, five vehicles, and 11 air pumps.

The detained suspects are currently in custody pending an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, in order to determine the criminal charges against them and to uncover potential national and international implications of this criminal activity.

This security operation is part of the collaborative efforts carried out by the National Security and DGST services to combat international drug and psychotropic drug trafficking networks, concluded the press release.

  • Economy : Renewable Energy Pioneer, Morocco Makes Ambitious Bet on Green Hydrogen - Italian Media

Under the guidance of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco has actively engaged in the development of clean energies in recent years, currently accounting for 38% of electricity production, with a target of 52% by 2030, stated the media, underscoring Morocco's ambitions in the realm of green hydrogen.

In an article titled "Morocco Bets on Green Hydrogen", Gea Agency emphasizes the special attention devoted by the Sovereign to this sector, particularly through the "rapid and high-quality" implementation of Morocco's offerings in the field. The aim is to "optimize the country's resources and respond as effectively as possible to projects proposed by global investors in this promising sector."

Quoting Samir Rachidi, Director of the Moroccan research institute IRESEN, the media reports that "Morocco is aiming to lead North Africa, despite the sector being in its early stages, and major global projects won't materialize for another three to five years," highlighting the keen interest in Morocco from foreign investors, notably in Europe and Asia.

According to Rachidi, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has announced the allocation of approximately 1.5 million hectares of public land to accommodate "eight green hydrogen and ammonia production sites."

For Rabat, green hydrogen is also of "crucial" importance, as it can be used to produce ammonia, the foundation for nitrogenous agricultural fertilizers, an industry in which "the country is one of the world leaders, thanks to its vast phosphate reserves," the agency continues.

Capitalizing on strong global demand, which has driven prices to 1,000 euros per tonne following the Covid-19 crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, the OCP Group aims to produce one million tonnes of green ammonia (green hydrogen) by 2027 and triple that amount by 2032, according to the agency.

Morocco is also planning to augment its fleet of 12 desalination plants with seven more to combat water stress, adds the same source.

Hydrogen is generated through the electrolysis of water, separating the gas from oxygen. It is considered "green" when produced using electricity from renewable sources, such as wind, solar, or hydroelectric power, explains the agency, noting that this energy carrier can play a pivotal role in decarbonizing industries like steel, cement, fertilizer, and chemicals, as well as in storing clean energy.

  • Social : Supreme Council and Local Councils’ Ulemas Endeavor to Implement Good Methodology in Tabligh (Toufiq)

This is a very clear "tabligh" which has allowed the emergence of an exemplary nation, Toufiq underlined in a presentation on the annual review of the activities of the Supreme Council and the local Councils of Ulemas presented before HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, during the religious evening chaired Wednesday by the Sovereign at the Hassan mosque in Rabat, in commemoration of Eid Al-Mawlid Annabaoui Asharif, adding that the effectiveness of "tabligh" is measured through the impact on Mans's life by encouraging him to take the path leading to a happy life, conditioned by faith and good deed, as promised by the Almighty.

The main mission of the Prophet is "tabligh", the minister stressed, pointing out that HM the King, descendant of the Seal of the Messengers, accomplished the mission inherited from the Messenger of Mercy, ensuring the protection of religion and the supervision of the Umma by "Mobalighines".

The Supreme Council and local councils of Ulemas are aware of the action carried out by HM the King, Commander of the Faithful, to guarantee them the necessary conditions to fulfil their mission, he said, adding that that the latest expression of this High Royal solicitude is none other than the support provided, this year, to the supervision of the general secretariat of the Supreme Council of Ulema, the creation of regional Ulema Councils and the increase of members of local Ulema Councils.

Toufiq also noted that Ulemas are convinced that the weak impact of "tabligh" on people's daily lives is explained by the lack of dissemination of the noble values of the holy religion both on ethical and behavioral levels.

Tackling the ethical aspect, the minister explained that this aspect is based on oneness (Attawhid) which predisposes the Umma to accomplish good in the image of the surge of solidarity shown by society after the earthquake, while the behavioral aspect consists of the observation of religious prescriptions in the relationships established between Men.

Toufiq also insisted on the need for the revision of all forms of "tabligh" through the various discourses, in particular the Friday sermon, the preaching courses in mosques and "Al Irchad" (the guidance) which shall take place via various media and communication platforms.

  • Sport : Lekjaa Calls CAF's Choice of Morocco as Host Nation a Culmination of Development Spearheaded by HM the King

In a statement to MAP following the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Cairo on Wednesday, Lekjaa underlined that this choice also underscores Morocco's readiness to host major sporting events under optimal conditions.

"Today, Morocco, with unanimous African approval and without any debate, has the honor of hosting the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. It is the crowning achievement of extraordinary work led by a Great King. It is also the finest reward for a football-loving nation," he said.

He went on to state that hosting 2025 AFCON in Morocco is the first step, to be followed by another significant endeavor: bidding to host the 2030 World Cup jointly with Spain and Portugal.

In this regard, Lekjaa stressed that the Kingdom will transform this event into a "rebirth of Mediterranean civilization between the north and south of the Mediterranean," noting that the African continent will rally behind Morocco to achieve this goal, which is also an African aspiration.

The Kingdom of Morocco was unanimously chosen as the host nation for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (2025 AFCON) following the meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Cairo on Wednesday.

Additionally, the Committee awarded the organization of 2027's edition to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, who had submitted a joint bid.

This operation was carried out on the freeway linking the towns of Bouznika and Mohammedia, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release. HRH Princess Lalla Asmae Chairs Launching Ceremony of Cochlear Implant Operation in West Africa

17 October 2022 Printable Version
Rabat - Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asmae, President of the Lalla Asmae Foundation for hearing-impaired children, chaired, Monday at the Rabat Hospital of specialties, the launching ceremony of the cochlear implant operation in West Africa under the program "NASMAA".

Lalla Asmae Foundation for Hearing-Impaired Children Director El Abbes Bouhlal said, in a speech, that the extension of the NASMAA national program to African countries as part of the campaign "United, we can hear each other better", fits perfectly into the Royal vision that makes South-South cooperation with African countries a strategic choice, carried by the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and based on a comprehensive and balanced vision of the development of the continent.

On this occasion, HRH Princess Lalla Asmae followed a presentation on the NASMAA program, delivered by the head of the program and treasurer of the Foundation, Karim Essakalli.

Emphasizing the importance of screening for deafness, Essakali stressed that the Lalla Asmae Foundation has been able to follow the Royal vision and extend the NASMAA program to a number of African countries, namely Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Gabon and Niger.

About thirty deaf children from these countries have traveled to Morocco with one of their relatives, to place the cochlear implant at the University Hospital (CHU) of the Kingdom and the Military Hospital, he said.

They will also be accompanied by their ENT doctors and speech therapists to follow up once they return to their countries, he said, affirming that for the success of this project, the Foundation has worked with several partners.

These partners are namely the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, the OCP Foundation, the National Company of Radio and Television (SNRT), the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), the Bank of Africa Foundation and the Lions Clubs International.

Her Royal Highness then followed a presentation on technological innovation for the inclusion of people with hearing impairments by the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar.

Hailing the commitment of HRH Princess Lalla Asmae in favor of children and young people with hearing disabilities at the national level and in Africa, Hayar was pleased to see this program acquire a continental dimension and become a framework for African cooperation.

"The ambition of the Lalla Asmae Foundation to extend the NASMAA program to a number of African countries is salutary and denotes the openness of the Kingdom towards its sons and daughters in Africa," said Lions Clubs International-Africa Director Vincent Alexis Gomès.

Alexis Gomez took this opportunity to pay tribute to "the strong commitment" of Her Royal Highness, "Her great kindness and Her known and recognized humanism" in the social action in favor of hearing impaired children in Morocco and abroad.

The General Manager of Bank of Africa, Amine Bouabid, expressed his thanks to Her Royal Highness and to the Lalla Asmae Foundation for Hearing-Impaired Children, highlighting the important role of South-South partnership in the treatment of childhood deafness, which can change lives.

In Morocco, cochlear implantation has reached a peak since 2002 and especially with the creation by the Ministry of Health of reference centers for cochlear implantation, responsible for the care of children as soon as they are identified as deaf, said the representative of the medical team in charge of operations at the University Hospital of Rabat, Leila Essakalli.

Given the success of the NASMAA campaign in Morocco, the Lalla Asmae Foundation wishes to make hearing-impaired children from Africa benefit from this operation, noted Essakalli, stressing that all teachers-researchers in ENT at the level of national centers of reference for cochlear implantation are committed to the success of this program both in the Kingdom and in Africa.

"In Africa, the project is promising, since the main objective is the transfer of Moroccan ENT expertise in the field of hearing rehabilitation by cochlear implantation", she assured.

In this context, the Lalla Asmae Foundation for Hearing-Impaired Children signed three partnership agreements, the first one is related to the protocol of the financial support of NASMAA, with the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family and the OCP Foundation.

Signed with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, the second agreement concerns the training of justice personnel in sign language.

The third convention relating to the integration of young laureates of the Lalla Asmae Foundation for deaf children was signed with the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills and the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC).

Thereafter, HRH Princess Lalla Asmae visited the children from Senegal and Gabon who are beneficiaries of the "NASMAA" program, at the recovery room.

Upon her arrival, HRH Princess Lalla Asmae reviewed a section of the Auxiliary Forces that was performing the honors, before being welcomed by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, and the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar.

Her Royal Highness was also welcomed by the ambassadors and business leaders of the beneficiary African countries (Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Gabon, Senegal, Togo, Niger, Burkina Faso), the Wali of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Mohamed Yacoubi, the President of the Regional Council, Rachid El Abdi, the Wali in charge of the national coordination of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), Mohammed Dardouri, and other officials.
