  • Politics : Illegal Immigration: Morocco, ‘Strategic Partner’ Fighting against International Mafias (Pedro Sanchez)

“Morocco is a strategic partner for Spain, not only in terms of controlling illegal immigration (…). Morocco is also important for Spain in the fight against terrorism,'' Mr. Sanchez pointed out in an interview with Spanish newspaper ''La Vanguardia'', published on Monday.

Noting that ''Morocco is also fighting and suffering from the violent actions of migrants'', the President of the Spanish government stressed that ''the main culprits for the tragedy that took place and the regrettable loss of human life are the international mafias which organize violent attacks''.

Regarding the attempted assault on the metal fence in the province of Nador, in which 23 illegal Sub-Saharans were killed, Sanchez said he was "grateful" for the work done by the Moroccan public forces.

“We regret the loss of human lives, in this case of desperate people who were looking for a better life and who are the victims and instruments of the mafias and criminals who organize violent actions”, he added.

Illegal migrants from sub-Saharan African countries led a violent assault on Friday morning against the metal fence in the province of Nador.

The latest report, made public on Saturday by the local authorities, reported 23 deaths among illegal Sub-Saharans.

An element of the law enforcement forces and 18 assailants are still under medical supervision.

  • Politics : African Ambassadors Welcome Morocco’s Migration Policy, Express Readiness to Collaborate with Moroccan Authorities

In this regard, the dean of the diplomatic corps and Cameroonian ambassador to Morocco, Mouhamadou Youssifou, stressed that the African group "greatly appreciates the gesture of HM King Mohammed VI for the supervision of migrants in Morocco", recalling the initiative of regularization, initiated in 2013 thanks to the initiative of HM the King, in favor of irregular migrants in the Kingdom.

"This migration policy of Morocco has earned HM the King to be designated by the African Union (AU) Leader of migration in Africa", he underlined in a statement to the press at the end of a meeting on the migration issue between officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad and the Ministry of the Interior and the ambassadors and representatives of the African diplomatic corps accredited in Morocco.

After condemning the assault of illegal immigrants in Nador, Mr. Youssifou underlined that African diplomats stand, as in the past, alongside the Moroccan authorities to face this situation.

"We stand, as in the past, alongside the Moroccan authorities to face this situation which does not honor our countries and which does not honor Africa, in general", he pointed out.

"We are ready to support HM King Mohammed VI to find a lasting solution to the issue of immigration," he said, adding that the African diplomatic corps is ready to work with Morocco to create a synergy of actions with African countries.

For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to Morocco, Mahamat Abdel Rassoul, praised the migration policy of HM the King, recalling that the Sovereign has given His High Instructions to shelter all foreigners and migrants who work, study and live in Morocco.

"We live in Morocco and we know how the Moroccan brothers conduct their policy towards our students, our migrants and our workers in the Kingdom," he said, recalling that the AU had entrusted to the Sovereign the management of the "very relevant and very sensitive" migration issue.

He also reaffirmed his country's determination to help Morocco to implement the Royal vision aimed at making South-South cooperation the foundation of African unity.

In his turn, Mr. Sylver Aboubakar Minko-Mi-Nseme, Ambassador of the Republic of Gabon, stressed that his country encourages the migration policy advocated by the Moroccan government under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

"We are working with the Moroccan authorities to make our citizens aware of the fact that Morocco is only protecting its territory and that illegal immigration cannot be encouraged," he said.

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Mahamoud Ben Labbat, Ambassador of Mali in Rabat, praised the migration policy conducted under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Held under the theme "El Hadj Malick Sy, 100 years later ... focus on his life and work", the event is placed under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful.

In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Moroccan diplomat stressed that the presence of a large delegation from the Kingdom at this event reflects the ties between the brotherly peoples of Morocco and Senegal, highlighting the common religious constants between Morocco and Senegal, namely the Maliki rite, Sufi Islam and the Achaarite dogma.

This participation, he added, is also an opportunity to further consolidate the historical and the excellent spiritual relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples, particularly the human and historical bonds uniting the cities of Tivaouane and Fez, voicing his "pride" in the quality of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Senegal.

Given the excellent relations between the two countries, HM King Mohammed VI was keen to deliver his speech on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the Green March on November 6, 2016, from Dakar, in which the Sovereign welcomed the participation of the brotherly Senegalese people alongside their Moroccan brothers and other citizens of the world in the glorious Green March, the diplomat recalled.

In His speech, the Sovereign praised the continued solidarity and support of Senegal for the higher interests of the Kingdom of Morocco, Naciri pointed out.

In his speech at the official ceremony, President of Senegal Macky Sall commanded the participation of a large delegation from Morocco in this event.

"His Majesty the King thus continues a long tradition of friendly, fraternal and spiritual relations between the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples and their leaders," he said.

President Macky Sall also asked the Moroccan delegation to convey to His Majesty the King "all his gratitude and thanks, in his name and that of the Caliph General and the family of El Hadj Malick Sy" for the high patronage of this event and the participation of this delegation in the celebration of the Centenary of the death of El Hadj Malick Sy.

For his part, the Caliph General of the Tariqa Tijania, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, paid tribute to the high solicitude of HM the King towards the community of Tidjanes in Senegal and His Majesty's support for the events and religious meetings initiated by the Tariqa.

In a message read on his behalf by his representative, the Caliph General praised the quality of relations between Morocco and Senegal. "Long live the Morocco-Senegal relationship under the leadership of President Macky Sall and HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful," the message said.

He recalled in this sense the mission of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, chaired by HM the King, which aims and works to revitalize scientific and cultural activities and promote the common African Islamic cultural heritage.

At the end of his message, the Caliph General of the Tariqa Tijania implored the Almighty to preserve HM the King and to surround Him with His protection and to fulfill the Sovereign in the person of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid and all the members of the illustrious Royal Family.

The official ceremony celebrating the Centenary of the death of Sheikh El Hadj Malick Sy took place in the presence of the representative of the Caliph General of the Tariqa Tijania, Mohamed Mansour Malick Sy, the Mayor of the town of Tivaouane Demba Diop Sy, Morocco's ambassador to Senegal, members of the Senegalese government in addition to representatives of the local authorities and the diplomatic corps accredited in Dakar.

  • Politics : Cooperation in Agriculture, Renewable Energy at Heart of Moroccan-Chilean Talks

The Speaker of the House of Advisors (Upper House), Naama Mayara, held a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, focused on ways to strengthen agricultural cooperation between the two countries, in light of the current international context that requires efforts to ensure food security.

Highlighting the strengths of Morocco's agricultural sector and programs launched to promote and develop this sector, Mayara said that during his meetings with the speakers of the Senate and the House of Representatives of Chile, he proposed the creation of a parliamentary economic forum that would strengthen investment opportunities and trade between the Kingdom and the South American country.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss ways to increase and diversify the volume of trade, the Chilean Minister of Agriculture told the Moroccan news channel M24.

The scientific techniques used to develop agriculture in semi-arid areas and the creation of academies of agricultural cooperatives, as well as mechanisms for preserving food security, were also among the topics discussed at the meeting, he added.

Praising the successful experiences of Morocco in many sectors, the Chilean official described the future of cooperation between the Kingdom and Chile as promising, since the economies of both countries are complementary.

In similar remarks following his meeting with the Moroccan delegation, Energy Minister Claudio Huepe said that Chile wants to strengthen cooperation in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen, suggesting the creation of technical committees to identify priority areas and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

During the talks, which were attended by Morocco's Ambassador to Chile, Kenza El Ghali, the speaker of the Upper House stressed that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is called to rise to the level of the excellent political relations, stressing that both sides have all the assets and opportunities to consolidate prosperity and growth at all levels.

Since the beginning of this week, the Moroccan delegation has held a series of meetings with several government officials and parliamentarians, as well as with members of civil society, to develop bilateral relations within the framework of South-South cooperation.
