  • Politics : APF African Regional Assembly Deeply Concerned over Terrorist and Separatist Threats in Africa, Reiterates Support for Territorial Integrity of the Countries of the Region

A statement issued by the House of Representatives underlines that the 28th session of the African Regional Assembly, which was held on June 23 and 24 in Rabat, paid tribute to HM King Mohammed VI and welcomed the good organization of this session, hosted by the Moroccan Parliament.

Speaking on this occasion, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, said he was very satisfied with the smooth running of this session, which addressed important topics such as democracy, the African Continental Free Trade Area, the participation of women in political, economic and social life, the active mobilization of MPs in terms of environmental protection and the fight against climate change, as well as the political, social and health situation in the French-speaking region of Africa.

Mr. Alami, who is also the deputy-president of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, stressed the common destiny of the French-speaking region of Africa, a destiny which requires "the consolidation of the principles of democracy to ensure peace and stability, establish a better status for African women, a clean and sustainable environment as well as adequate health conditions and a prosperous, united and flexible African economy within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area”.

The Speaker of the Lower House called for unifying voices in the world of tomorrow, in harmony with the challenges of the African continent and in the light of the convening of the next session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie in Kigali this year, noting that Africa "will remain an essential pillar in the construction of the French-speaking world".

Created in May 1967 in Luxembourg, the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie is a forum for dialogue, proposals, exchange of information and experiences bringing together several parliamentary sections on the five continents.

The Moroccan Parliament joined the APF in 1979 and hosted some regional African assemblies (19th in 2011, 25th in 2017 and 27th in 2019).

  • Politics : Morocco's Distinguished Location Makes it Priority in Chile's Foreign Policy (Senate Speaker)

Chile and Morocco enjoy genuine friendly relations which have been strengthened over the years, added Mr. Soto, who was speaking following talks held Thursday with the Speaker of the House of Advisors, Mr. Enaam Mayara, who is leading a large parliamentary delegation on a visit to this country.

In a statement to the Moroccan news channel M24, Mr. Soto explained that for Chile, "it is important to strengthen relations and ties of friendship with Morocco", stressing the importance of exchanging visits, consolidating commercial and political ties and creating mechanisms that can contribute to the prosperity of our two countries".

For his part, Mr. Mayara noted that the visit of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation to Chile reflects the depth of relations between the two countries and shows the firm will to continue to strengthen relations between the Moroccan and Chilean parliaments.

In this regard, he said he proposed to organize an annual economic parliamentary forum between Chile and Morocco, with the aim of exploring prospects for trade and investment.

The Moroccan official stressed that this forum would be an opportunity to highlight Morocco's potential in various fields, such as renewable energies, water and agricultural policy, adding that the project of this forum is part of South-South cooperation, an approach promoted by Morocco under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

The Moroccan delegation also had a meeting with the Speaker of the Chilean House of Representatives, Raul Mardones, in the presence of the ambassador of Morocco to Chile, Mrs. Kenza El Ghali, a meeting which was an opportunity to highlight the distinguished level of relations between the two countries, since the historic visit of the Sovereign to Chile in 2004, opening the way to promising prospects and fruitful cooperation at all levels.

In this regard, the speaker of the House of Representatives of Chile underlined his country's commitment to promoting excellent relations with the Kingdom at the legislative, political, cultural, social, commercial and economic levels, adding that it was agreed to work together to achieve these objectives and to translate them into action, according to a roadmap and a specific timetable.

He also welcomed the proposal of the Speaker of the House of Advisors to create a Moroccan-Chilean Parliamentary Economic Forum, which will be a space to attract investments and strengthen economic and commercial ties between the two countries.

"We make the improvement of the reception and the quality of service as well as the concern for health a top priority. • Economy : Morocco's Tourism Revenues Up 123.3% by End of April 2022

These revenues have reduced their decline from their pre-pandemic level to 36.3%, following a 71.5% drop at the end of April 2021, said the DEPF in its report on business climate for June 2022.

In April 2022, the third month after the reopening of national borders, tourism revenues continued to grow. This trend is expected to accelerate in the coming months, following the relaxation of travel restrictions that took effect on May 18, 2022, and other government measures aimed at supporting and boosting the sector's activity.

Besides the emergency program in favor of the tourism sector, the Marhaba 2022 operation was launched on June 5, 2022, with its new measures aimed at offering the best conditions of reception and transit to Moroccans living abroad.

As a result, tourism receipts rose by 329.7% in April 2022, (+529.8% in March and +25.1% in February 2022). Between February and April 2022, the revenues reached nearly 13.6 billion dirhams, against 4 billion dirhams a year before and 17 billion dirhams in the same period of 2019, i.e. a recovery rate of 79.7% compared to the pre-crisis level.

For the months of March and April 2022, this recovery rate reached 91.2%.

  • Economy : Tourism, New Driver for Strengthening Morocco-Brazil Strategic Partnership - Ambassador

More than any other area of cooperation, tourism is the sector that contributes the most to bringing people together, allowing mutual knowledge, and creating cultural and human links, said the diplomat at an event held in Sao Paulo by the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (ONMT) part of the "Morocco: Land of Light" promotional campaign.

"The 12 million tourists who visit Morocco every year, including 50,000 Brazilians, discover Morocco as an open and tolerant country and as a nation proud of its thousand-year-old heritage," he said.

"Our ambition is to increase the number of Brazilian tourists visiting Morocco, as well as to promote the destination Brazil among Moroccan tourists," the diplomat stated.

In this line, Adghoghi noted that mobility in both directions is facilitated by the absence of visa requirements for Moroccan and Brazilian nationals, and the daily flights provided by Royal Air Maroc between Casablanca and Sao Paulo, before the pandemic.

Thanks to their multicultural and cosmopolitan identities, Morocco and Brazil have the potential to work towards better reciprocal knowledge and more common cultural initiatives, he concluded.

  • World : Inclusion of Gender Approach in Public Policy Making Is a Must, IMF Says

Speaking at a workshop on the gender approach and inequalities, held on the sidelines of the conference held by Morocco's Central Bank (Bank Al-Maghrib) in partnership with the IMF and the IMF Economic Review, Sahay said that this topic is of great importance as gender inequalities are increasingly growing around the world, which is why it is necessary to include the gender approach in each strategy or public policy.

These inequalities are mainly reflected in access to education, health, and financing, which leads to a great difference in opportunities between men and women, she stressed.

Referring to women's low economic participation in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) which is estimated at only 30%, the expert attributed this situation to several factors, topped by the difficulty of access to finance and socio-cultural factors.

To overcome this, it is important for women to open up to new professions, especially in the digital field that does not require many financial resources, she suggested, adding that access to women's economic rights would increase economic growth and the gross domestic product by nearly 15%.

The IMF is continuously working to improve the situation of women in vulnerable situations, first by collecting data and then by developing appropriate strategies for the full empowerment of women at all levels, Sahay said.

The conference brings together public sector leaders from central banks and ministries of finance, senior officials from international organizations and experts from academia, and comes ahead of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, to be held in Marrakech in October 2023.

  • World : Spain/Operation Marhaba: Call for Mobilization to Accompany Return of Moroccans Living Abroad

During a coordination meeting, held Friday with the consuls general of Morocco accredited in Spain, the diplomat recalled the High and Benevolent Solicitude of which HM King Mohammed VI surrounds the Moroccan community abroad.

In this regard, Benyaich urged the Consulates General to prioritize the issue of the return of Moroccans to their homeland in full coordination with the Spanish authorities.

Consular services are called upon to be attentive to Moroccans living abroad, assist them and provide them with the necessary support and assistance in line with the High Royal Instructions, said the diplomat, assuring that all measures have been taken by Morocco and Spain, to ensure the best conditions for the conduct of this major operation.

According to Benyaich, the resumption of the Marhaba operation, after a two-year hiatus, is a "major challenge" for both countries, which requires general and constant mobilization of consular services to facilitate the administrative procedures of the Moroccan community living abroad and assist people in vulnerable situations.
