The 58-member Board decided to "recommend" Azoulay's candidacy to the Unesco General Conference, which is expected to formally confirm her at its 41st session scheduled for November 9 to 24 in Paris.
Alone in the running, the outgoing Director-General won 55 of 57 votes, with two members of the Executive Board abstaining from voting.
Elected for a 4-year term, Audrey Azoulay took office on November 15, 2017. She succeeded Irina Bokova, the first woman to lead Unesco.
