The institute has released a photo of this "potentially dangerous" asteroid, named 7335 (1989 JA).
"This year it is the largest (about 1.5 km in diameter) of the known potentially dangerous objects," the Institute explained, adding that it could even be seen by an amateur telescope with an aperture of 20 cm.
The asteroid will be closest to Earth on May 27 at 17:26 Moscow time, at a distance of 4 million kilometers. It is moving at 13 kilometers per second, the Institute said in a message on Telegram.
The asteroid poses no threat to the planet, the Russian Space Society said in a message on Telegram.
7335 (1989 JA) fits into a class of asteroid called the Apollo-class — which refers to asteroids that orbit the sun while periodically crossing Earth's orbit. Astronomers know of about 15,000 such asteroids.
