"Today at #WHA75 [the World Health Assembly[ Member States re-elected @DrTedros to serve a second five-year term as Director-General of the WHO. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus's new mandate officially commences on 16 August 2022," the WHO tweeted.
The WHO chief, who was first elected in 2017, was the sole candidate for the position.
Before being appointed WHO Director-General, Tedros served as Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2016 and before that health minister from 2005 to 2012.
