The visit was an opportunity for the parliamentary delegation to have a first hand look at the development achieved in the Kingdom's southern provinces and the climate of security, peace and stability prevailing in the region, as well as the role of elected councils in managing local affairs.
Chaired by Carlos René Hernandez Castillo, the Salvadorian parliamentary delegation learned about the efforts deployed to strengthen basic infrastructure in Laâyoune and the measures taken by the State to breathe new life into the region's development.
At the headquarters of the Laâyoune municipality, the members of the delegation followed a presentation, attended by Municipal Council President Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, on the municipality's development programme and were briefed on the various development projects included in the new Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015.
Earlier the same day, the parliamentary delegation held a meeting with the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, focused on the relevance of the autonomy plan presented by Morocco and on the development boom in the region in different fields.
During the meeting, the wali highlighted the democratic process in the southern provinces, in particular the latest elections with massive local participation, reflecting the population's attachment to their country and their support for the management of their local affairs.
The parliamentary delegation also visited a number of major construction sites to witness the quality of the educational, sports and socio-economic infrastructure.
They then visited the sports village, the Olympic swimming pool, the women's club and the indoor multi-sports hall, as well as the City of trades and skills and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The Salvadorian parliamentary delegation, consisting of Daniel Joaquin Aguillon Marquez, Johanna Michelle Anaya De Murillo and Cécilia Guadalupe Rivera Mendez, held a series of meetings during the week, notably with Lower House Speaker Rachid Talbi El Alami.
