Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the suspects who were on a car in the city of Laayoune, the source said, adding that the suspects intended to organize an illegal immigration operation by sea.

Afterwards, 13 would-be illegal immigrants from African sub-Saharan countries were arrested, it pointed out.

Searches led to the seizure of three life jackets and five inflatable boats, in addition to a set of cell phones used in this criminal activity, the statement said.

The suspects were placed on custody, while investigations are underway under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office.
