Faced with the pandemic of the new coronavirus, an action plan has been established around three aspects: health, economy and social order. In each of these areas, the cooperation of public institutions, the private sector and members of civil society has so far made it possible to limit the damage and have some control over the pandemic, the authors of the article noted.
Therefore, at the level of the health response, Morocco launched actions very quickly to minimize the scope of the chain of contamination of the epidemic: "Coronavirus Command Posts" have been set up at the appropriate territorial levels to ensure monitoring and coordination with the health services of the identification and location of the epidemic, said the publication.
The locking of borders, the prohibition of gatherings, the closure of schools, followed by drastic measures encouraging voluntary and then compulsory confinement are a set of actions that reinforce this initiative, recalled the same source.
At the same time, the country has worked to increase and redevelop its hospital capacities and to improve patient reception conditions in various cities in Morocco, particularly the densely populated cities most at risk.
Military field hospitals have therefore been deployed in cities or their outskirts to strengthen the civil health system with intensive care beds and equipment, explained the publication, adding that batches of medical and health equipment have been imported with speed and, gradually deployed in health facilities and stocks of drugs have been built up, in particular chloroquine produced by a pharmaceutical group based in Morocco.
In addition, Moroccan companies specializing in the manufacture of medical equipment (respirators, hospital equipment) have also been called upon by accelerated procedures, while industrial companies have been able to readapt their production facilities to produce respirators and secure the production of masks.
Patient care, the involvement of civil society actors and an adapted communication policy are all elements that have enabled Morocco, from a health point of view, to limit the impact of the pandemic, according to the contributors to this publication.
On the economic front, Morocco has organized its response through the creation, at the initiative of HM King Mohammed VI, of a special fund endowed with 10 billion dirhams to counteract the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic. As of April 9, nearly 34 billion dirhams of donations from public and private entities as well as personal initiatives of citizens have been accumulated.
