A total of 166 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Morocco over the past 24 hours, bringing to 5,219 the total number of Covid-19 cases, said the director of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 television channel and RIM radio.
Two coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the same period, which rises the number of fatalities to 181, El Youbi said, adding that the death rate (the percentage of deaths caused by the virus among the total number of confirmed cases) has stabilized at 3.5%, while the total number of excluded suspected cases following negative tests has reached 44,351 since the start of the epidemic.
According to the official, 4,102 suspected cases were excluded over the past 24 hours.
In this regard, he noted that the majority of new cases (136 out of 166) were reported through the medical follow-up of people who had contact with confirmed covid-19 cases, ie a rate of 82%, noting that 9,310 people are under medical follow-up.
Over the past 24 hours, the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Casablanca-Settat regions have recorded the highest number of cases, followed by Marrakech-Safi and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, El Youbi said, adding that the Casablanca-Settat region remains the worst hit, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Marrakech-Safi, Fez-Meknes and Draa-Tafilalet.
The number of Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals in a serious or critical condition has dropped, he said, adding that this category represents only 3% of the total of Covid-19 cases, as 84% of the cases show mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.
