A judicial police patrol had intervened to arrest the suspect for violence using knives in the Al Wahda district, said a statement from the National Police (DGSN), adding that the accused violently confronted the elements of the patrol, which forced the chief inspector to use his gun and shoot a bullet, thereby neutralizing the danger and arresting one of the suspects.
Five other suspects involved in the incident were arrested later on Tuesday evening, the same source said, noting that according to initial reports, two people were accidentally and superficially injured by the fragments of the bullet fired after hitting the ground.
The two injured, as well as the police officer, who also suffered a concussion, have been transferred to the hospital for treatment, as the investigation is under way to determine the extent of their involvement in the case.
The six accused were remanded in police custody for the investigation carried out by the judicial police under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, concluded the press release.
