Twenty-seven new Covid-19 cases were recorded over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the country to 7,433, said director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 TV channel and RIM Radio.
A new coronavirus related death was registered over the given period, which rises the number of fatalities to 199, he added, noting that the deceased was suffering from chronic diseases.
The death rate remains stable at 2.7%, El Youbi pointed out.
According to the official, 65 Covid-19 patients have recovered over the past 24 hours, bringing to 4,703 the total number of cured people and to 63.3% the recovery rate.
The total number of excluded suspected cases has reached 135,449 since the start of the pandemic, including 9,294 over the past 24 hours, he said.
In this regard, El Youbi said that the majority of new cases (23 out of 27) were detected actively.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, Casablanca-Settat remains the worst hit region with 32.2% of the total of cases, followed by Marrakech-Safi (18%), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (13%), Fez-Meknes (13%), Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Draa-Tafilalet.
Morocco has crossed the threshold of 10,000 Covid-19 screening tests per day in the past two days, he said, adding that the number is increasing every week.
The daily press briefing of the ministry of Health will be held at 6 p.m. as of tomorrow Monday, while the Covid website will be updated twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., El Youbi said.
The ministry of Health urges citizens to observe rules of hygiene, implement the precautionary measures issued by the public authorities, act with responsibility and show patriotism.
