This brings to 16,262 the number of contaminations since the first case was reported in the kingdom on March 2, and to 13,821 the number of people fully recovered, i.e. a recovery rate of 85%, said head of the department of epidemic diseases at the Directorate of Epidemiology under the ministry of Health, Hind Ezzine.
The number of fatalities rises to 259 with two new deaths in the last 24 hours, i.e. a case-fatality rate of 1.6%, she added.
With regard to the geographical distribution of new cases, 31 contaminations were recorded in the Marrakech-Safi region (21 in Marrakech, 2 in El Haouz and 8 in Safi), 66 cases in the Fez-Meknes region, (19 in Fez, 11 in Meknes, 13 in Taounate, 20 in Sefrou, 2 in Taza and 1 in Moulay Yaakoub), 27 in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region (21 in Tangier, 2 in Larache, 3 in Tetouan and 1 in M'diq), 1 case in Eastern region (1 in Jerada), 11 in Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (3 in Sidi Kacem, 5 in Sale, 2 in Rabat and 1 in Temara), 16 cases in the Casablanca-Settat region (16 in Casablanca), 1 case in Guelmim-Oued Noun (in Guelmim), 2 cases in Souss Massa (2 in Inezgane), 3 cases in Dakhla Oued-Edahab (3 in Dakhla) and 7 cases in Beni-Mellal Khénifra (7 in Khenifra), while the other regions reported no new cases.
According to Ezzine, the number of contact persons monitored since the beginning of the emergency now totals 89,492, of whom 14,893 are still under medical follow-up, while the number of cases excluded after negative laboratory results amounts to 899,043.
Concerning active cases, she noted that 2,182 persons are currently under treatment, including 32 critical cases, 10 in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, 2 cases in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region, 07 cases in Marrakech-Safi, 4 cases in the Fez-Meknes region, 8 in Casablanca-Settat and one critical case in the Beni-Mellal-Khenifra region. Seven of these 32 cases are intubated, Ezzine said.
The ministry of Health urges citizens to observe preventive measures, including the correct wearing of protective masks, regular hand washing, respect for physical distance and the use of the "wiqaytna" application and regular activation of Bluetooth to reinforce and ensure the tracing of contact persons.
