This ceremony took place in the presence notably of Ambassador of Morocco to Serbia Mohamed Amine Belhaj, and Ambassador of France Jean-Louis Falconi, as well as senior officials from the Serbian Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Labor, Employment and War Veterans, said a statement from the Moroccan Embassy in Belgrade.
On October 19, 1918, units of the First Serbian Army and French Gen. Gambeta's Cavalry Brigade liberated the Serbian city of Zajecar and this date is commemorated as the city's Liberation Day during World War I.
Since then, the authorities of the city of Zajecar have formalized the organization of a commemorative ceremony in honor of the Embassies of the Kingdom of Morocco and of the French Republic accredited to Serbia, given that Moroccan soldiers were part of the cavalry of General Gambetta, added the same source.
This commemoration has become a local tradition bringing together each year delegations from the Embassies of Morocco and France, the authorities of the city of Zajecar, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian army, as well as the Serbian ministry in charge of Veterans.
