Held in the form of a car rally by several associations and actors of the Moroccan community in the United States, this march was an opportunity for participants from several neighboring states to express their joy and pride in the US recognition of Morocco's full sovereignty over its Sahara.
Carrying Moroccan and American flags, the convoy, including cars and motorcycles, paraded through the historic streets of the US federal capital, in strict compliance with health measures in force.
The participants, of all ages, stopped in front of the George Washington Monument and the Smithsonian Castle to sing the national anthem and patriotic songs, including "Sawt al Hassan".
"We came to celebrate the historic American decision and the unique friendship that binds Morocco to the United States, and to express the unequivocal support of Moroccans in America for the Moroccan Sahara," one of the participants told MAP.
The historic US decision to recognize Morocco's full sovereignty over its Sahara was announced December 10 during a telephone conversation HM King Mohammed VI had with US President Donald Trump.
As the first materialization of its sovereign initiative of great importance, the United States of America decided to open a consulate in Dakhla, with an essentially economic vocation, to encourage American investments and the contribution to economic and social development, in particular for the benefit of the inhabitants of the southern provinces.
