Mondafrique was interested in a letter addressed to the new American president, Joe Biden, by the Algerian parliamentary groups in which they demand "the annulment of the decision of Donald Trump on the recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara", under the pretext that "Trump's decree on the Moroccan Sahara would violate the principles of the United States on this issue" and that "the Moroccanness of this territory would undermine the right of peoples to self-determination".
"Except that the American recognition is a decision of a sovereign state. The Algerian parliament has no capacity to intervene in this process. Especially since Algeria has always maintained that it was not a party to the Sahara conflict", said the French media in an article entitled "Sahara, the surprising lobbying of Algerian parties in Washington".
According to Mondafrique, "the US recognition decision is no surprise. The United States, in recent years, has included the Sahara in US agreements with the Kingdom."
In addition, "Donald Trump's decision is a Presidential Decree published in the Federal Register, not a personal decision." "It has been distributed to member states of the United Nations, as an official document of the Security Council, in the six official languages of the United Nations," it recalled.
