In an op-ed published Monday by the daily newspaper "Al Ittihad Al-Ichtiraki", Al-Atlassi highlighted the fact that this same Algeria, which claims to want to act to "promote" and "energize" the mechanisms of Arab solidarity, broke off diplomatic relations with Morocco, after having persisted in keeping land borders closed, "ignoring the King of Morocco's renewed calls for dialogue, understanding and cooperation ".
"If all this delirium is not the effect of the fever of hostility towards Morocco, it is perhaps the rage of the hater who, in his haste to do harm, strikes blindly," he said.
Decisions of the Algerian leaders towards Morocco, which seem hostile, mad and stupid, fomenting hatred and perpetuating hostility, carry a political charge, which probably escapes most of them, he continued, noting that these successive ruptures against Morocco hide a bitterness regarding the decline of their pretexts on the Moroccan Sahara issue.
The writer explained that everyone in Algeria knows that any attempt to revive the separatist project in the Moroccan Sahara from its ashes is doomed to failure, especially since the Moroccan autonomy proposal has paved the way to a political solution, becoming the basis for the treatment of this issue by the UN, world powers and most of the countries of the world.
He mentioned as an illustration the actions in El Guergarat which turned against the Algerian leadership after the effective intervention of the Royal Armed Forces which aborted its long-held dream of having an opening to the Atlantic Ocean through "a liberated zone" to deprive Morocco of its African extension.
The U.S. recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara is another step, which has come to strengthen, at the international level, the political and historic credibility of the Moroccan right, he pointed out.
Morocco, Al-Atlassi wrote, has offered Algerian leaders a most honorable opportunity to turn the page on a historic period of lean cows, paved with lost opportunities for peace, cooperation and progress.
Algeria has not responded to the Moroccan autonomy initiative, the only credible solution to this conflict, and has turned a deaf ear to HM the King's calls to strengthen Moroccan-Algerian relations and to open up avenues for dialogue and cooperation. Instead, it has disproportionately escalated its hostility towards Morocco, said Saoud Al-Atlassi.
"Morocco today is strong ... Yes, it is strong. Algerian leaders did not expect this Moroccan development ... just as some European countries did not see it coming. They were convinced that the Kingdom would not be able to go as far as they themselves had imagined and planned," he said.
According to Al-Atlassi, Morocco is strong thanks to "the determination of HM the King to orient it towards the development of its potentialities and the solidification of its economic, social and political levers.
Morocco took the Algerian leadership by surprise as much in its forecasts as its expectations, just as it surprised some European players, he said, adding that this explains the hostile maneuvers emanating from certain European countries over the past few months.
"Algerian leaders may believe that they have allies in Europe, in their plans to surround Morocco ... These are just the illusions ... of a state in a state of emaciation ...", he said, adding that the Algerian leadership "is in conflict with itself ... with the currents and loyalties within it ... more than 20 generals are in prison ... about twenty ministers, including two prime ministers, are in prison ... and the prison door is always wide open for others.”
"Algerian leadership is disconnected from its people, as evidenced by the low popular participation in the elections, the continuation of the popular movement "Hirak" throughout the country, in addition to the collective rejection of the state in Kabylia ... ", he said, recalling that these leaders are unable to meet the basic daily needs of the Algerian people, in terms of regular supply of water, electricity and basic products such as sugar, oil…
“This leadership tries to find outlets for its crises and excuses for its incapacity ... by opposing Morocco and making it responsible for all the anger of his people, of all their failings and even of their fires", Al-Atlassi pointed out.
"Please, leaders of Algeria ... be reasonable ... only a united, stable and prosperous Morocco can safeguard your interests in a harmonious Maghreb interaction", Al-Atlassi concluded.
