Eight new deaths due to coronavirus complications were reported in the same period, bringing the total number of fatalities to 126, while twenty-six new recoveries were registered, which rises to 203 the total number of recovered covid-19 patients, Director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, pointed out in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 channel and RIM radio.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, Casablanca-Settat is still the worst-hit region, ahead of Marrakech-Safi, Fez-Meknes and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, he added.
He said that 16% of cases reported among people who had contacts with confirmed cases did not show symptoms, 70% were in mild condition and 14% were in serious or critical condition when they were taken into hospitals, adding that 64 patients are in intensive care units.
The average age of covid-19 cases is 47, he said, adding that the most affected age group is 40-65 years-old (38%), followed by 25-40 years-old (21%).
The official pointed out that the majority of confirmed cases are reported among people who had contacts with infected people, including 69 over the past 24 hours, adding that 759 cases were confirmed after testing 11,608 people who had contacts with confimed cases.
According to El Youbi, 5,108 people who had contacts with confirmed cases are still under medical surveillance.
