Rabat - A security operation led by the judicial police of the provincial police district of Dakhla resulted, on Tuesday, in the arrest of a 29-year-old individual suspected of having links with a criminal network operating in the organization of illegal migration, as well as for violation of the state of health emergency.

The preliminary investigation helped apprehend the suspect in the industrial zone of Dakhla along with five candidates for illegal migration from sub-Saharan countries, said the National Police (DGSN) in a press release, noting that the search operations made it possible to seize a zodiac boat's engine, as well as seven jerry cans containing a total of 420 liters of fuel.

The suspects were remanded in police custody for the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office with a view to determining the circumstances of this case and identifying all the accomplices of this criminal network, added the same source.

This operation is part of sustained efforts led by the DGSN to fight against criminal networks active in the organization of illegal migration and human trafficking, as well as in application of the health emergency measures aimed at curbing the spread of the new coronavirus, concluded the DGSN.
