Meknes: Owner of Sewing Shop Manufacturing and Selling Face Masks Not Meeting Health Standards Arrested, Police

Rabat - Policemen from the Meknes police prefecture arrested, on Wednesday, the owner of a sewing shop, aged 50, for his alleged involvement in manufacturing and selling face masks that do not meet health quality standards.

The suspect was arrested as part of the field control operations carried out by the public forces, after finding out that he was using his sewing workshop, located in the old Medina, to make face masks using raw materials devoid of the components necessary to ensure protection against infection by the coronavirus, with the intention to selling them in the local market in an illegal manner, said a press release from the National Police (DGSN).

The search operation led to the seizure of 250 units of these masks as well as three rolls of fabric used in this activity which constitutes a threat to public health, according to the same source.

The suspect was remanded in police custody for the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, while police operations continue on the field to combat the marketing of all goods and all disinfection materials that could threaten the health of consumers, the statement said.
