The recovery rate from this disease has reached 59.4%, said director of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its TV channel M24 and on RIM RADIO.
The number of fatalities has risen to 196 (two new deaths) in the last 24 hours, added the official, noting that the case-fatality rate remains stable (2.7%).
In addition, 78 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 7,211, El Youbi said, adding that the majority of these new cases were recorded in the city of Casablanca, while a few others were registered in the regions of Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, Tangier-Tetouan-El Hoceima, Fez-Meknes and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra.
The total number of excluded cases has reached 105,786 since the beginning of the pandemic after negative analyses of 6,915 cases in the last 24 hours, he said.
In this regard, he noted that 87% of the new cases (65 out of 78) were detected through the medical follow-up of the contact persons, although they did not present any symptoms, stressing that the number of contact persons who have benefited from medical follow-up has so far reached 40,469.
Geographically, Casablanca-Settat is the region with the highest number of confirmed cases (31%), followed by Marrakech-Safi, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Draa-Tafilalet, El Youbi pointed out.
The ministry of Health urges citizens to respect the rules of hygiene and health safety, as well as the preventive measures taken by the Moroccan authorities, by showing responsibility and patriotism.
