This repatriation operation carried out through a flight of Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) was supervised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Cairo, in coordination with the Egyptian authorities.
It benefited to Moroccan citizens holding short-stay visas in a vulnerable situation, in particular the elderly, people suffering from diseases or having undergone surgical operations, in addition to women accompanied by their babies.
With the arrival of this group of 152 people, including two infants, the number of Moroccans who have returned to the Kingdom through Beni Mellal airport rises to 312.
Following their arrival, the beneficiaries were taken to several hotels in the city of Beni Mellal where they will be quarantined for a period of nine days as part of the medical protocol in force.
Local authorities have also taken all the necessary measures to ensure the success of this operation, which took place in the best conditions and in accordance with the precautionary measures issued by the Moroccan authorities.
In a statement to MAP, Morocco's ambassador to Cairo, Ahmed Tazi, said that the repatriation operation of Moroccans stranded in Egypt, the majority of whom are elderly, women and infants, has taken place in "good conditions" and in full respect of the precautionary and health measures in force.
He added that this repatriation operation was carried out on the basis of a careful selection of 510 requests, recalling that the people chosen to benefit from this humanitarian initiative meet the criteria set by the consular services.
